NCETM Professional Development Lead Development & Accreditation Programme (ADVANCED MATHEMATICS)7/15/2015 ![]() In conjunction with the Further Mathematics Support Programme (FMSP), the NCETM has developed an Advanced Mathematics Professional Development Lead Development and Accreditation Programme (Advanced Maths PDLDA) to support colleagues who design and lead advanced mathematics professional development opportunities for others. The NCETM/FMSP team is now offering the Advanced Maths PDLDA to anyone involved in providing advanced mathematics PD for teachers in schools or colleges who meet the entry requirements. This will enable every secondary school in England to up-skill at least 1 of their staff in these specialist subjects each year.
The training will be developed and delivered by outstanding and good schools across the country and will help drive up the quality of maths and physics teaching nationwide. The National STEM Centre is pleased to be offering another round of the ‘New and Aspiring Leaders of Mathematics’ programme for teachers looking to lead a mathematics department in secondary schools.
This intensive two part residential professional development course has been developed for teachers new or aspiring to lead a mathematics department in secondary schools and will equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to run a successful department.
Objective:
The focus of this workshop is to introduce investigative mathematics with resources which can be readily used for pupils in the classroom. We hope pupils will develop their high level problem solving skills. For example, pupils will learn that a scale factor in mathematics can be used and applied to working out ingredients for making mince pies. The National STEM Centre, based at the University of York is offering professional development run specifically for you to cover leadership, monitoring, coaching, developing team members and more through five days of residential development and a gap task. Venue: Westcliff High School for Girls Time: 4:00 – 5:00 pm This initial networking meeting is open to all primary teachers who have the responsibility for delivering and teaching level 6 mathematics at Key Stage 2. The objectives for this meeting are (a) to design level 6 mathematics schemes of work at Key Stage 2, (b) to discuss a possibility of using sixth-form students as digital mentors, (c) to plan for ‘two-days’ revision workshop for practising Level 6 style mathematics questions, and (d) to promote a collaborative teacher project for mathematical and arithmetic proficiency with funding up to £5 000 available from the National Centre for Excellence in Teaching of Mathematics.
