About the Genomics Hub
The National Science Learning Network, in conjunction with the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus and Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, is establishing up to 13 genomics hubs for 2016-2018 throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to provide school/college staff with regular expert continuing professional development (CPD) on the rapidly changing field of genomics. There will be a National CPD programme for teachers coordinated by the National STEM Learning Network which will be rolled out through Science Learning Partnerships (SLPs) in England during 2016-2018.
SET SLP are applying to be one of the named Genomics Hubs in England. The selected SLPs will be required to deliver a national CPD programme in genomics working in partnership with at least one other nominated school/college in their region.
We are looking for excellent teachers with appropriate and successful background in A level biology teaching to become a lead teacher for genomics. It is hoped that these lead teachers will have some expertise in genomics and already passed stage 1 of the National Science Learning Network lead teacher programme, or be willing to attend that training during spring 2016. These teachers will be required to attend two days of training in the genomics CPD in York in July 2016. They will also be required to provide a minimum of five days per year of CPD programme locally through the SLP from July 2016 to August 2018.
SLPs need to submit an expression of interest in the first instance which names at least one other nominated school as their partner school and gives details of two excellent biology teachers to become the lead teachers.
